has glosseng: The House of Burke also known as de Burgh or Bourke - french de Burgos, are a Hiberno-Norman noble house, the descendants of William de Burgh (c.1160?-1204), a Norman adventurer and knight who settled in Ireland. He was probably the elder brother of Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent. The surname is one of the most common in Ireland, particularly in north Munster and Connacht. The name de Burgo derived from "burg" or "burgh", meaning a town, and could have come from many places in western Europe.
