The inauguration marked the commencement of the partial four-year term of John Tyler as President. It was the first time that a Presidential death had occasioned the swearing-in of a new President. The swearing-in was administered by Chief Judge of the local U.S. Circuit Court, William Cranch, at Brown's Hotel, at 6th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC (at the same intersection as the present site of the Newseum). |
