has gloss | eng: Multi-factor authentication is synonymous with two-factor authentication. Authentication with several factors is not a new concept. When the user slides their ATM card into the machine, they are supplying one factor, the "something the user has" factor. When they key in their 4-digit pin, they are supplying a second factor, the "something the user knows" factor. Without both, authentication cannot take place. This is the concept of multi-factor authentication; using "two or more of the three categories of factors" (Definition: FFIEC). |
