has gloss	eng: The transumanza is the Italian term for transhumance, the traditional twice yearly migration of sheep and cows from the highlands to the lowlands, and vice versa. The word literally means "crossing the land". Ancient Custom It is an ancient Italian custom, today scarcely in existence, in which large flocks of sheep in the mid fall were driven south from the hilly and mountainous regions of the Apennines to winter over in the more southern coastal plains of Puglia and, less commonly, Lazio. A much more limited version of these migrations took place in the Alpine and Prealpine areas of Valle dAosta Lombardia and Piedmont. In the mid spring of each year this migratory pattern was reversed as the herds traveled to the fresher and greener pastures of the higher Apennine elevations in the Abruzzo Region of Italy.

has gloss	deu: Der Viehtrieb ist das Treiben des Viehs auf die Weide oder in den Stall. Es stellt einen zentralen Bestandteil der Almwirtschaft der Bergbauern dar. Da jahreszeitlich bedingt im Sommer Weidewirtschaft in höheren Gebirgslagen möglich ist, lassen Bergbauern für diese Zeit ihr Vieh in entsprechenden Stallungen vor Ort unterbringen. Im Frühjahr, je größer die Höhenlage des Zielortes, desto später, wird aufgetrieben, der sogenannte Almauftrieb, während im Herbst nach umgekehrtem Schema abgetrieben wird, der sogenannte Almabtrieb. In den Zentral- und Westalpen sind zwischen unterem und oberem „Senntum“ sowie bei komplizierten Alpverhältnissen zwischen entlegenen Alpen, Umtriebe nicht ungewöhnlich. Auch Schneefall im Hochsommer kann zu Umtrieben auf tiefer gelegene Alpen führen.
