When it opened, it held the record for most inversions (6). It held this record for one year before being surpassed by Shockwave at Six Flags Great America. It was also briefly the tallest roller coaster in the world. It is located on the site formerly occupied by The Bat, another Arrow-created coaster, and reused The Bats station building for loading and unloading. Some components of The Bat remain, including some of the original rides concrete footers. The ride itself runs three trains, each seating up to 28 riders. The track and supports are dark blue and the rails are orange. During the 2008-2009 off season, the rails were repainted.

Bij de opening, had de achtbaan het record van de meeste inversies. Vortex was ook tijdelijk de grootste achtbaan ter wereld. De Vortex is gelocaliseerd op de plek, waar voorheen The Bat heeft gestaan, een Arrow Dynamics prototype hangende achtbaan. Vortex gebruikt hetzelfde station, als dat van The Bat. Sommige delen van The Bat zijn gebleven zoals een aantal van de betonnen palen, waar de ondersteuningen in zitten. De achtbaan zelf heeft drie treinen waarin 28 personen per trein kunnen plaats nemen. De baan en de ondersteuningen zijn donkerblauw, en de rails zijn oranje.
